Visualisation and Visibility Analysis forms the basis of the impact assessment of planned wind farms on the landscape.

For many years igr has supported municipalities and businesses with the implementation of energy-system transformation, particularly in the field of wind energy. The current services (besides site strategies and land use planning, more particularly expert reports for immissions protection law authorisation documentation) are now being complemented by an additional field of activity.

From 2016, with the help of WindPro software, igr has also provided this service. For the visualisation/photomontage, the planned wind farm is photo-realistically superimposed on a photograph of the existing landscape. This allows the impact of the planned site on the landscape to be assessed more realistically. The vantage points for the photos are agreed in advance with the relevant authorities.

As an additional service, the ‘Zones of Visual Influence’ (ZVI) are calculated. The ZVI is a WindPro module to calculate and present the visual impact of wind farms on the landscape. With this, the area from which a particular number of wind turbines are visible can be determined.

Moreover, the visibility analysis is a good basis for evaluating alternative sites, or for the evaluation of suitable site locations. In addition, it gives an indication in advance of the photo visualisation, as to whether there is a sightline to the wind farm from the planned vantage points, and/or which locations should be chosen as photo vantage points.
