A 61 Federal motorway, Mutterstadt motorway intersection

The heavy use of the A 61 motorway requires its upgrading into six lanes. To estimate the acoustic consequences of this structural change, igr carried out an acoustic calculation.

The focus was to optimise the active noise protection measures in the area of the town of Speyer in proportion to the negative impact on local residents, and the need for more passive complementary protective measures.

Federal transport infrastructure plan, section A 61, Gau-Bickelheim - Alzey motorway intersection

Under commission from the state enterprise Mobilität Worms, igr produced a study concerning the upgrading of the A 61 Federal motorway from the Gau-Bickelheim junction to the Alzey motorway intersection. An upgrade to a 6-lane motorway was being considered. The study was required to make an accurate prediction of project costs for the preparation of the new Federal transport infrastructure plan. For this reason, a 15 km section was under consideration. Special attention was to be paid to assessing the project feasibility, and to the expected costs for the reconstruction of bridges and other structures.

Tank- Rastanlagen

A 65 Pfälzer Weinstraße West service station

Commissioned by the state enterprise Mobilität Worms, igr prepared a site design for the extension and upgrading of the Pfälzer Weinstraße West service station. The planning aim was to significantly increase the parking capacity for heavy goods vehicles in line with the BMVBS‘s (Federal Ministry for Transport, Building and Urban Development) expansion programme. In considering the prevailing conditions and constraining factors, the existing petrol station and franchisees’ area, the existing water ways and intersection structures, and the existing infrastructure were of particular relevance. Through the new design additional parking places for heavy goods vehicles, buses and cars were provided, and also parking for special vehicles.

Parkplätze rognacplatz

The town of Rockenhausen, reconstruction of the Rognacplatz

The Rognacplatz in Rockenhausen is located on the edge of the town centre, and provides a focal point for visitors. The bulk of the public facilities, many tourist and gastronomical attractions, as well as multiple landmarks are to be found in this area. In the course of the urban design analysis, a ‘vision’ was developed in which the Rognacplatz remains a town centre car park, but must also provide a space for creative and pioneering ideas. In particular the area surrounding the adjacent Schloss hotel is to be upgraded, and in this connection the Schloss park will be extended.

verk bingen omnibus_6

City of Bingen am Rhein, Central bus station

In the area of the central bus station in Bingen, the L 395 (a main access road) was divided into two carriageways and a central bus station built inbetween. Turning places were created at each end of the new bus station.

A particular feature of the project is that the entire through-traffic flows through the area of the bus station. The construction work happened while the traffic continued to flow, since a complete road closure was only possible during holiday periods due to the importance of the L 395.
