The concluding conference of the BMBF funding programme, "Intelligent and multifunctional Infrastructure systems for future-proofed water supply and waste water disposal (INIS)" took place on the ‘Museumsinsel’ in Berlin on the 20th and 21st of April 2016. igr participated in its role as a practice partner in one of the 13 funded projects.

Significant challenges have arisen for Germany’s water supply and waste water management from climate change, demographic shifts and the policy of switching to renewable energy. Since 2013, universities, businesses and local authorities have been working in partnership, within the INIS framework, to search for solutions to these challenges.

During the presentations, the exhibition and a demonstration-site visit, more than 200 participants from Germany and neighbouring countries exchanged views about the potential optimisation of technical systems, the integration of urban and infrastructure development, and ways to support decision-making and communicate the complex interrelationships involved.
