Renaturisation/relocation of the Seebach, Nürtingen, district of Esslingen

In the course of re-routing the state road B 313 between Wörthbrücke und Enzenhardt in Nürtingen, the Seebach was renaturised. The renaturised section of the Seebach was just before it joins the Neckar.

Part of the water way was in near-natural condition (in compliance with § 30 BnatSchG), while other parts were anthropogenically greatly altered.

The renaturisation was technically highly demanding, due to a number of complications, such as culverts, specific embankment stabilising (including with willow branches), stilling basins and rock ramps.

At the same time, ecologically valuable stream sections were re-created through the introduction of reed canary grass, the planting of site-appropriate trees, the use of indigenous construction materials (stream beds/banks, natural stones), and the near-natural re-routing of the stream.
