Renaturisation of the Moschelbach, Gehrweiler municipality, Donnersberg district

The water legislation authorisation plan in line with § 68 WHG involved the planning of a storm water retaining basin and the renaturisation of the Moschelbach in the immediate vicinity of Gehrweiler and directly adjacent to the federal highway L 388.

The measure provides a morphological upgrading of the Moschelbach in line with the European Water Framework Directive, as well as creating retention capacity for extreme storm events (flood relief). The planning was technically demanding due to a variety of complications arising from the position next to the L 388, including associated ditches, existing constructions and pipework. The project was completed within five months.
