Almost all bodies of water in central Europe are, due to decades or centuries of intensive human use, in a far from natural condition. Since approximately the end of the 1980s it has been generally recognised that near-nature water bodies and their associated floodplains have a great importance, both for humans (recovery space, flood protection) and for the indigenous animal and plant communities.
This has been reflected over time in the maintenance and development of all water bodies through the specific guidelines of the European Water Framework Directive, national legislation, and the implementation programmes for single bodies of water.
For more than 25 years we have supervised projects with the goal of reintroducing near-nature morphologic conditions, and neutralising disturbances in the free passage of various organisms. Through in-house seminars and regular training on this subject, our planners are always aware of the latest professional and legal developments in the field.
